Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re asking the question, that’s usually reason enough to explore it. You don’t need a crisis or diagnosis to begin. A persistent feeling that something isn’t right, a pattern you can’t shift on your own, or a sense that more is possible are all valid reasons to start. The free 15-minute call is there to help you find out, without committing first.
I've never been to therapy before, what should I expect?
Expect it to feel less strange than you think. There’s no script to follow and nothing to prepare. You can talk about what's on your mind, or what feels difficult to say, and we begin there together. Many people feel anxious before the first session, but find that this eases once the pressure to know exactly what to say is gone.
I've tried therapy before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?
Not all therapy works in the same way. If previous therapy felt too focused on coping, advice, or symptom management, this may feel different because it looks beneath the surface. Lasting change usually happens there. Fit matters too: a previous therapy not working does not mean therapy is not for you, only that that particular fit may not have been right.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There’s no fixed timeline, and it would be dishonest to give you one. Some people come with something specific and finish in a few months. Others find the work opens onto something larger and stay longer. It can get harder before it gets easier as avoided material begins to surface, but that is a normal part of the process, not a sign that something is going wrong.
What's the difference between counselling, psychotherapy, and coaching?
Coaching usually focuses on goals, habits, and moving forward. Counselling and psychotherapy explore the emotional history and unconscious patterns beneath what is happening now. The distinction between counselling and psychotherapy matters less than the depth of the work; this approach is designed to work beneath the surface, whatever label is used.
Do you only work with professionals?
No. Many clients are self-aware professionals, but just as many are coming to therapy for the first time, with no particular framework for what they are feeling. Both are welcome. What matters is not your background, but whether you are ready to look honestly at what is underneath the presenting issue.
What does a first session look like?
We’ll start with what has brought you here, whether that is a specific problem, a general feeling, or something you cannot yet put into words. There is no need to have it organised or clear. Part of the first session is simply gathering information and building an initial picture of what may need to change. We will also get a sense of each other, and I will explain how I work and the terms of working together.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. What you say in sessions stays confidential, with the standard legal and ethical exceptions that apply to all therapists, for example if there is a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. Those exceptions are rare and, wherever possible, would be discussed with you directly rather than acted on without your knowledge.
What if I want to stop?
You are free to stop at any point. It is usually more useful to bring the ending into the room rather than simply disappear, because that gives us a chance to understand what is happening and whether stopping feels right, or whether something in the work itself is making you want to leave. But the decision is always yours.
Do you work online?
Yes. Online sessions work well for many clients and have the same fee and structure as in-person sessions. Many people start online and later move to in-person, or the other way round, depending on what suits their life at the time.
Do you offer a reduced fee?
I keep a limited number of reduced-fee spaces for online sessions only, where possible. You’re welcome to ask about current availability during the free 15-minute call.

What clients say
“My experience was positive almost from the get go, with Claudia noticing things about me I thought were well hidden, and from other people generally were. This helped me to trust that she knew what she was doing, and could target what I was doing that was destructive amidst my tendency to talk rapidly and at length. My experience has been very good and challenging in a way that I wanted. On days when I expected easy sessions, I did not get them, meaning I wasn’t able to dodge the work I needed to do. She also strikes a good balance between caring and making necessary adjustments to our practice and my thought processes.”
“I was going through a very difficult time at work, both due to my interaction with some colleagues as well as burn out. Claudia took me on a journey through which I was able to understand not only the current issues I was dealing with but also the repetitiveness of some of my actions that led me to situations from which I was easily hurt. Through our sessions it became clearer that I cannot always change a situation I am in or to change the people around me... I can only change how I react to it and try to understand why and how someone’s action is affecting me and why I feel in a certain way.”
